In May 1993 Carlo Wood started to code for undernet (have a look at undernets history; dates 4th May and 24th May).
In 1999 he stopped coding for undernet because undernet was no longer flexible enough for real improvements of the protocol and because of certain commercial elements who started to run proprietray code (with closed source) on undernet...
But he didn't stop coding ircu!
